About the project

The goal was to create a short and emotional story experience using simple gameplay mechanics. The player explores a small village, talks to characters, and collects frames that represent lost memories. The focus was on creating a clear player path, simple interaction, and a strong final story moment.

Pipeline & Development Log

Week 1: Core Concept & Story Design

During the first week, I focused on defining the core concept of the game and building the foundation of the narrative. The goal was to create a short, emotional experience centered around memory and exploration.

I worked on:

  • Story writing and dialogue design for NPCs

  • Defining the two-level structure and the final twist

  • Planning the frame collection mechanic as a way to represent memories

  • Basic UI ideas and interaction flow

This week was mainly about shaping the idea and making sure the story and gameplay worked together.

Week 2: Level Design & Environment Setup

In the second week, I focused on building the main environment and designing the player experience in the engine.

Key work:

  • Creating the village layout using stylized assets

  • Designing player paths to guide exploration naturally

  • Placing key locations such as houses and the lake

  • Adding the first NPC and interaction points

  • Initial camera setup and scene composition

The main focus was on readability and making the environment feel clear and easy to navigate.

Week 3: Gameplay Systems & Interaction

During week three, I implemented the core gameplay systems and connected them to the story.

Implemented features:

  • Dialogue system for NPC interactions

  • Frame collection system using GameInstance

  • Level transition between the two levels

  • Second NPC and dialogue progression

  • Basic UI elements such as frame counter and feedback messages

This week turned the project into a playable experience with a clear gameplay loop.

Week 4: Final Flow, Ending & Polish

In the final week, I focused on polishing the game and completing the full experience.

Key improvements:

  • Refined dialogue pacing and player guidance

  • Implemented the final lake scene and story reveal

  • Camera setup for the ending scene

  • UI improvements and feedback clarity

  • Bug fixing and testing the full game flow

The main goal was to ensure a smooth experience from start to finish and deliver a strong narrative ending.
